What's Ahead: The Drake women's track and field squad will head to Lincoln, Neb. to compete at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite. The event, hosted by the University of Nebraska will begin Friday, Feb. 1 at noon and continue Saturday, Feb. 2 at 10 a.m.
Last Time Out: The Bulldogs, led by their hurdlers and sprinters, recorded 18 top-10 finishes at the Jack Jennett Invite at Northern Iowa.
Marissa Smith (Ajax, Ontario) won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.74 and was followed by four teammates; Sarah Yeager (Ottumwa, Iowa) in second (8.75), Destani Welch (Des Moines, Iowa) in fifth (9.03), Briana Isom-Brummer (St. Louis, Mo.) seventh (9.09) and Brooke Foreman (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) in 10th (9.44).
Senior Whitney Westrum (Waukee, Iowa) won the 200 meters with a time of 25.56 and paced the 4x400-meter relay to victory in 3:53.14.
The 60 meters was an equally impressive showing with a quartet of Bulldogs in the finals. They were led by Ariel Kinlow (Brown Deer, Wis.) in second with a time of 7.85. She was followed y Danyelle Cole (Kansas City, Kan.) in fourth place (7.89) and Tiara Winston (Denton, Texas) in fifth at 7.90. Westrum came in eighth.
Kinlow also finished seventh in the high jump.
A Year Ago: Smith claimed second-place in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles at the Frank Sevigne Invitational in a personal best time of 8.57.
Kirsten Lake (Parker, Colo.) finished fifth in the 600-meters (1:37.55), while Jessica Mathes (Cherokee, Iowa) was ninth (1:38.49).
Mariel Fulton (Louisville, Colo.) snared a 14th-place finish in the 3,000-meters in (10:31.70).
Up Next: ?The Bulldogs will stay in state to compete at the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 8 and 9 in Ames, Iowa.
