"Park University is pleased to partner with FC Kansas City as the official practice facility for the Blues," said Park University President Michael Droge, Ph.D. "Park readily welcomed this opportunity to provide an immaculate grass facility at our Hemingway Field and understands the importance of practicing on grass for the squad's daily workouts. In addition, we welcome and encourage community visitors to our Parkville Campus to watch the practices and interact with the players during the season."
"Everything from their grass field to their locker rooms and training rooms is top-notch," said FC Kansas City president Brian Budzinski. "We plan on having one of the top teams in the National Women's Soccer League, and that starts with training at one of the top facilities in the area."
In addition to serving as FC Kansas City's official training home, Park University's partnership with the team includes serving as its official education provider. FC Kansas City is also providing internship opportunities with the team and its parent company for Park students. Furthermore, the co-sponsorship of a girls soccer camp on the University's Parkville Campus is in development for this summer.
As part of the partnership, Park University will host FC Kansas City's final exhibition match of the 2013 season. The Blues will play the University of Nebraska on Park's Julian Field at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday (April 6). Admission for the exhibition is $5 for adults, $3 for students older than 12 and senior citizens 55 and older. Military members and veterans, along with Park University students, faculty and staff are free with their military or Park ID. Children under 12 are also free. All proceeds will be used to support Park University's Department of Athletics.
FC Kansas City will open the 2013 NWSL season by hosting its inaugural game against the Portland Thorns FC at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at Shawnee Mission District Stadium, located on the grounds of Shawnee Mission North High School, 7401 Johnson Drive, Overland Park, Kan.
