New York?s most wanted man has been taken into custody.
Julio Acevedo, the fugitive suspect in the hit-and-run that killed a Williamsburg couple and their newborn son, was taken into custody in Pennsylvania on Wednesday.
NYPD say he was arrested at a mini-mart in Bethlehem, Pa. without incident.
Acevedo will need to be extradited back to New York City to face charges in the crash.
Acevedo, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, said nothing to officers who took him into custody, Browne said.
The surrender, which occurred shortly after 5 p.m., was brokered by a friend who had been in touch with police earlier in the day. The friend met officers at New York?s Grand Central Station, then led them to Acevedo in Bethlehem, about 80 miles away, police said.
Acevedo was being held by Pennsylvania State Police.
Acevedo has a long rap sheet including a 1987 manslaughter conviction for killing a Brooklyn man and another arrest just two weeks ago for driving while intoxicated.
Acevedo is believed to have been the driver of the BMW sedan which slammed into the cab carrying expectant parents Nachman and Raizy Glauber Z?L, who were on their way to the hospital because the mother-to-be felt ill.
Doctors performed an emergency C-section to deliver the premature infant after the crash, but R?L died a day later.
Sources say the BMW was speeding at more than 60 mph when it hit the cab at the intersection of Wilson Street and Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, this past Motzei Shabbos.
Police say Takia Walker, 29, of the Bronx, owned the BMW involved in the fatal crash but was not behind the wheel. She was arrested early Monday on insurance fraud charges, accused of allowing a third party who was not on her vehicle insurance policy to drive her car. Authorities are searching for the driver.
It is not known what the charges will be.
VIDEO OF SURRENDER:
On Tuesday, the suspect spoke with the NY Daily News said he fled the scene because he ?was scared of someone shooting at me.?
?I was scared. I just got shot at,? he added.
